Moda Re LCA

Overview

In 2022, an inaglobe project conducted a life-cycle assessment (LCA) of Moda re-, the clothing collection, reuse, and recycling initiative run by Caritas in Spain — one of the largest textile-reuse operations in the country.

Context

Textile waste is a major environmental problem, and social enterprises like Moda re- combine circular-economy goals with employment and social-inclusion programmes. Quantifying the environmental impact of such an operation — from collection through sorting to resale and recycling — helps the organisation understand and communicate where its model genuinely reduces impact.

Approach

The study applied life-cycle assessment methodology to Moda re-'s textile operations, supervised at Imperial College London with environmental-policy expertise, working with data and access provided by Caritas and the Moda re- team.

The full assessment is available as a report in the resources below. The collaboration is an example of inaglobe's environmental-engineering strand: analytical projects where the deliverable is evidence an organisation can act on, rather than hardware.
